Sexual Addiction Recovery Counseling DenverSexual Addiction Recovery Counseling

When I work with a person that is struggling with sexual addiction, I rarely have seen him or her fail who is committed to follow our recovery program. I have witnessed many who do not recover because they were unwilling to give themselves to this simple program of recovery.

What I often notice about these struggling men and women is that they are not willing to share everything in a way that is rigorous honesty. Sexual Addiction Recovery requires strong commitment!

Sex Addiction Recovery: No Half Measures

Please understand: recovering from sex addiction is a battle that you must really want to win.  An AA phrase says: “You must be sick and tired of being sick and tired.”  There are no “half measures” to recovering from sex addiction.  It must be your top priority!  If it isn’t, than you haven’t experienced enough misery yet. It would be better to continue gathering more pain and misery rather than start recovery prematurely and quit.

Sex Addiction: Cunning, Baffling, & Powerful

The Alcoholics Anonymous book writes, “If you have decided you want what we have and are willing to go to any length to get it–then you are ready to take certain steps.” Many sex addicts try to find an easier, softer way. He or she must be willing to let go of old beliefs and ideas. AA calls addiction, “cunning, baffling, and powerful.” Sexual addiction and alcoholism are similar in that the consequences are destructive but the addict cannot stop alone. The addiction reinforces that no one can be trusted but recovery is all about fellowship and learning to trust others.

Sex Addiction Recovery: State of Mind

Recovery is both a state of mind and a set of actions.  While individuals say they are “in recovery,” unless there are recovery actions to back up that statement, they are at risk of losing their sobriety and returning to their compulsive behaviors. What does good recovery look like?  Persons in recovery are busy doing the work of recovery.  Recovery is something a person does!
